Ice Castles

                         Ice Castles (NH)

Ice Castles are tourist attractions in four major US cities. Recently, my family and I visited the one in North Woodstock, New Hampshire. When walking among the gorgeous ice formations, multiple layers was a must, especially on feet (I found that out firsthand.) On top of that, prepare for a half an hour to an hour of walking. Sleds were suggested to drag young children in, and as fun as that sounds, probably wouldn't work as well for those older. It was important not to touch or try to break the ice, for obvious reasons. While I'm going to describe the place, I am not going to give away all the fun, especially as words cannot do it justice!

The ice castle itself had several things to do inside, such as a few slides, lit up rainbow colors, a little tunnel for kids to crawl through, and a larger, walking tunnel. The entirety of the place was lit up by colored lights, frozen in the ice. There was a couple large windows in the ice, set there as photo spots.
Being able to walk through the forest was a magical experience. They had multi-colored lights hung all around and in the trees, as well as some other ice surprises if you kept your eyes open! There was a carriage ride and a tubing hill elsewhere, but I cannot vouch for those, as I did not experience them.

All in all, the Ice Castles was a wonderful experience that I absolutely want to have again. A big thank you to everyone that works on it, because it is a lot of work to build, of that I'm sure!

Keeper of the Lost Cities

 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐                  By Shannon Messenger

Keeper of the Lost Cities follows a girl named Sophie Foster. Over the course of the series she learns a lot about herself, trying to uncover the mystery of where she came from. I highly suggest this series for anyone who likes fantasy or adventure books. Well, actually, I usually suggest it to everyone!

Endangered Species Spotlight!

                          Baiji Dolphins: Extinct Already?

All creatures are magnificent in their own way, and some are almost gone! Some are already too far gone for us to do anything but learn from, but it is our job to protect the animals depending on us. There is very little know about Baiji dolphins, but they are considered functionally extinct. That means that they no longer play a substantial role in their ecosystem. The dolphins numbers are few, and declining. We might not be able to save these dolphins, but there are other animals that we can save. Here you will find as much information as I could find, because, like I said, there is very little know about them.

Baiji dolphins have other names including: Pei C'hi, Beiji, Yangtze River Dolphin, Whitefin Dolphin, Chinese River Dolphin, and Whiteflag Dolphin. they live in the Yangtze River which has nine cities bordering it, including Shanghai. It is a highly populated and polluted river which brings the threats to them. Human disturbance, loss of habitat, fishing net entanglement, whaling, and pollution are all threats to their small numbers. No one knows how they breed. When a boat passes by, they dive deep down, do a sharp turn, and come up far behind the boat. Following their diet of fish, they may go closer to shore and hunt in the shallower water. Newborns are 32 to 35 inches and adults are four feet and nine inches to eight feet and three inches.

We need to learn from the Baiji dolphins, because while we shouldn't give up on them, there is so many animals that need our help. If you have wildlife near you that is unique to that area, learn about it, the threats it faces, and if it is endangered. There is so many animals that are extinct, are you prepared to let more go without a fight?

Restaurant Review: The Local

                           Restaurant Review: The Local

                        ⭐⭐

So, the other day me and my family went to a restaurant called The Local. When we went inside we seated ourselves and then a sever came to ask about drinks and give us menus. I sprang for the chili with cornbread. When the server came back she told us what they were out of. Now, she didn't say cornbread. So, I ordered the chili. It went on as usual, I got my food, I ate, and around the end of my soup I realized I would need more food. So my mom asks, "Weren't you supposed to have cornbread?" It was only because we asked if the chili was supposed to come with cornbread that I found out that they were out! Overall, their food was O.K. and their service was terrible. I would give them two stars. I didn't think the food was terrible, but they didn't bring us the check right away. It might be because they didn't see that we were done, but that would have been because they didn't check on how we were doing. Honestly, overall I wouldn't suggest eating at The Local, but, we had had a recommendation to go there, and when we told the person what had happened they were surprised. Another thing to consider was that there was a fall festival just across the street, so that may have impacted their service.

Book Talk

⭐⭐⭐⭐

 Sammy Keyes

                   By Wendelin  Van Draamen

Sammy Keyes is an amazing series! The only reason it's 4 stars is because I don't want to be all like "Every book is the best!" because most of these books I am probable gonna be rating pretty high!

Sammy Keyes revolves around 7th grader, Samantha Keyes. She has a fairly normal life, until a mystery is thrown into the mix! She has to balance being a schoolgirl, granddaughter, and a detective! I love this book because it shows you how not all  detectives are there by choice, Sammy usually tries to stay out of it, but, ends up getting sucked in anyway! I highly recommend this book to those who love mystery novels, but, could use a change of scenery!
